In Lucem

© Mac Kristin

“In Lucem” is the counterpart to my painting “Ostium Noctis” (Latin for “Window to the Night”), and hile “Ostium Noctis” explores themes of introspection and darkness, “In Lucem” moves in the opposite direction — toward openness, clarity, and light.

The title, Latin for “Into the Light,” reflects this quiet shift. The composition is built around layered squares in soft periwinkle tones, gradually becoming brighter toward the center. Each layer acts as a step forward — not dramatic, but calm and deliberate.

At its core, the painting offers a sense of space — not filled, but open. The light in the center is not absolute; it suggests possibility, a state of becoming. The geometry supports this movement: balanced, centered, and focused inward.

In Lucem is not about arriving at light, but approaching it — slowly, thoughtfully. It mirrors an inner process: the transition from uncertainty to orientation, from stillness to quiet direction.

Together with Ostium Noctis, this work forms a conceptual pair: night and light, inward and forward, closed and opening.
